CuteRank is a rank tracker that offers services for free. Well, some of them, at least.
This website offers you to download their program to your computer and try it out, for free. If you like it, you can always upgrade to their paying option.
Keep in mind, the free version will only allow you to rank track for one domain. But, that’s enough to get a feel for the program and see if it’s the right fit for you.
Like we said, nothing in life is free – if you have more than one domain (which is highly likely), you’ll have to upgrade.
Here’s the thing, CuteRank is a very simple program. It’s a rank tracking tool – nothing more, nothing less.
So, the features are quite limited, even when you buy the program. The simplicity has its perks – you can’t get confused.
On the other hand, you don’t really get that much for your money, if you opt for the option to pay for the full version of the program.
The features are:
As you can see, these are just the basic rank tracking features, but they are efficient, nonetheless.
On the plus side, the user-friendliness level is off the charts! Even if you’ve never heard of rank tracking tools or never laid your eyes on one – you’ll figure out how to use CuteRank in mere minutes.
This software is available for Windows and Mac computers.
There really isn’t much to say about the performance of CuteRank, except that it is utterly adequate.
And, we don’t mean that in a bad way. You’ll definitely get what you need if all you need is basic. Alebeit, at a, perhaps, steeper price than usual.
On the CuteRank website, there is a download link for a free download of their program.
The download takes only a minute or two, and then you’re good to go – you can start using your rank tracker.
Once you run the CuteRank program for the first time, it will open in a new window.
It is a fast program with a simplistic design. Once you’ve opened it, you’ll see that you have to get through certain steps of information input, before the program starts gathering data for you.
The starting page is the information input page, so, you can get lost. The first step is Adding URLs.
As we mentioned, you can only add one domain, if you have chosen a free version of the program. If you have paid for their services, the number of domains at your disposal is unlimited.
So, just type in your website’s URL, and click on the “Next” button.
In the same manner as before, adding keywords is not a problem. You can input your target keywords manually, one by one, or copy and paste them from a pre-existing list you have.
Now, we were a little disappointed that there is no “Import” option. The copy/paste option is fine unless you have a lot of keywords on different lists, for example. In that case, you might get a bit lost when adding keywords.
Now, this option excels and fulfills all needs. You can choose among multiple search engines and their domains. That means you can track your keywords for any country in the world (and, consequently, any language).
You can select up to three search engines in the free trial version, and that includes different domains.
The option of tracking locally isn’t available, unfortunately. So, if you want to know how your business website ranks in your area, where your potential customers live and shop, you’ll have to search elsewhere.
While selecting search engines you have the option of setting the delay between each query for each keyword. This helps increase the success rate.
The next step pertains scheduling. You can choose to schedule automated reports and choose when you want your data to be automatically updated.
Scheduling can be done:
In addition, you can choose whether you want your data updates to happen at an appointed time or whenever you launch the program.
Once you’ve chosen the options and settings that suit your needs, the program will start gathering data.
This process might take a little while, but you can minimize the program and leave it to its task.
There will be a progress bar on the screen indicating how far along the program is in data gathering.
Once all the data is gathered, you’ll be presented with a nice, transparent layout of information.
Here’s how it looks.
On the CuteRank dashboard, you can see a pie chart for each of the search engines you’ve picked.
The charts showcase how many of your keywords rank in top 10, top 20, top 30 etc., search engine result pages.
Here, you will also find information on the changes that happened in the ranks, since the last time you checked. The number of keywords that went up, down, or stagnated will be showcased.
Below the charts, you’ll see the list of all the keywords you’ve entered, and information pertaining them.
On this list, you will see how each keyword ranks on each of the selected search engines. You’ll also see the CHG number for each keyword.
Unfortunately, other than that, no other information is available. This program doesn’t calculate the cost per click, doesn’t track your competitors or has the option of quick verification of the rankings, as many others do.
It does, however, present information in graph form. This is an excellent feature, as it allows you to have a more clear overview of the progress a certain keyword has made when it comes to rankings.
The graph has the option of displaying results for any of the search engines you’ve selected.
As it seems to be a recurring theme with this tracker, even this nice feature has a downfall.
You’ll have to wait a week before the graph starts to form. So, if you’re impatient – tough.
The program collects data for each keyword for between 7 days and up to a year in the past. Just click on any keyword in your keyword list and you’ll see the graph form for that keyword, as well as some additional information below the graph:
You can easily switch between the dashboard and the keyword graph page by clicking on the “Website” or “Keywords” buttons in the upper left corner of the program.
In the upper right corner, you’ll see the buttons for:
You can choose if your reports are sent in CVS or PDF form. Once you choose the form, a report will be downloaded directly on your computer.
If you have chosen a free trial version, the report will be pretty basic. The paying customers, on the other hand, have the option of adding their logos and brand markings to their reports.
Other than that, the report is basically a screenshot of the dashboard page.
It seems that the CuteRank software is a hit-or-miss when it comes to accuracy.
Some users swear by it, and report back only the best impressions, while others report mismatches and the program being way off in ranking for some of their keywords.
We have encountered a similar problem. We compared results of the CuteRank program with some other rank trackers we use, and the results are really all over the charts.
Some keywords’ ranking matched with the data our other trackers provided, and some didn’t.
This isn’t that often an occurrence, but, it’s a real problem, especially when the program doesn’t offer much more than basic rank tracking.
If you buy their program, you have access to 24/7, unlimited support. There is no live chat button, which is understandable, considering that this tracker isn’t web-based, but available only for download.
But, their customer support is always available and promises reliable answers to your problems within 24 hours.
If you opt for the free version, there is no support, although, you can still send them an email with a query.
If you have the free version of the program, the first option in the help bar is the one to register and pay. Although you can send your ticket, even if you are a free user, it’s clear that they will seize any chance to turn you into a paying customer.
Now, this is a criterion CuteRank passes with flying colors.
While it is true that the program is simplistic in both design and range of features, and, some would say, rudimentary, at least anyone can use it.
There are no requirements for prior knowledge needed or convoluted steps that will make your head spin. Just a simple program with 5 steps to your goal.
CuteRank is really user-friendly, which could be explained by the lack of features. You won’t get overwhelmed or lost amongst the many pages of this tracker. Because there aren’t that many – just two – keyword overview and domain overview.
If you are a beginner, this program might prove useful for you, as it can ease you into the world of SEO and rank tracking. However, the lack of additional features will probably quickly sway you in another direction. You’ll probably grow out of it, as your business grows.
The pricing also has some pluses and downfalls. On the one hand, there are no monthly payments. You buy the program, once, for 59.95$, and then you can use it as much as you want.
There are no restrictions on the number of keywords and domains, as well. Well, at least there aren’t if you pay.
The free version is much more constrained, as you are limited to one domain per user.
Although there are much pricier trackers, CuteRank still has a steep price, considering how little it offers.
The free and paid versions differ, of course, when it comes to the features, but, not by much.
The core features are the same, but if you buy the program, you’ll also get:
Overall, we can’t say we are satisfied with this tracker. While it’s fast in data gathering and quick to launch, it lacks in feature diversity.
Although, VuteRank doesn’t advertise anything different – what you see is what you get.
But, on today’s market, you have to constantly evolve and be innovative in order to keep up with the competition. CuteRank exists for a good while now, and hasn’t succeeded to do so, it seems. The quality-price ratio is simply subpar.
The main advantages of CuteRank are:
It seems, though, that the cons outweigh the pros:
